Off the beaten path

Finally! The sun has returned. The earth is drying out. And mundane, everyday “stuff” is slowly settling down to a dull roar. I can breathe again and hope to wander down the trail a bit later. But first, I need to finish the book so I can return it to the library. That calls for a steaming cup of tea, a warm cozy fire and my comfortable reading chair by the sunny window.

Are you wondering what has me so riveted that I can’t go out yet? It’s this book: Elderhood by Louise Aronson. What a humane, clear and refreshing discussion on the implications of society’s beliefs and the stories we are told about what happens when we are “past our prime”.  And how they need to be revisited. And on point – in yesterday’s news: the new Governor General of Canada was appointed. Lousie Arbour, a mature woman of 79! Past her prime, you say? Really? Anyway, time to finish this book and return it.
